I may have mentioned before that my Mom is here visiting me in Calgary. She’s due to go back to our home country, the Philippines, soon but I have been adamant in asking her to extend her stay until January of next year. The reason is that I wanted her to experience her very first Winter in another country. I wanted her to witness snow.
I’ve raved about before how I love snow and the Winter time. Call me mad, but I just love it! Since arriving in Calgary three years ago I’ve been looking forward to the very first snow fall of the coming Winter.
Last night, we had some continuous snow flurries, the very first snow fall, so to speak. It lasted long enough during the night that when we woke up this morning, almost everything was covered with white, wet snow. It was the perfect opportunity for my mom to go out and see for herself what snow looks like:
Admittedly, this snow fall is mild compared to what normally is considered as a real snow fall here in Calgary. But what the hey, it’s my Mom’s first time to see it, so we took some photos of her with her very first roughly-fashioned snow ball!
There will surely be more photo opportunity in the following weeks as Winter slowly creeps in. I can’t wait to see the expression on her face once she experience some real, heavy, knee-high snow.
I hope I will not be branded as a cruel son by asking her to stay longer and experience the Calgary Winter; I just wanted to share with her the child-like joy and wonder that I felt when I saw my very own first snow fall.
