Archive for February, 2009

It’s late February and we woke up to some relatively thick snow this morning. I took out the camera and decided to play around with my recently acquired Dolfie Plus NEO-GUY 1/6 Male Figure and do some freezing photo shoot with it:

In Snow A Bare Body 1/6 Scale Figure Do Not Belong

I previously posted about my other 1/6 scale figure, the Hot Toys Batman. This one is from Volks and it is a bare figure. It’s has a huge range of articulation and can do a lot of dynamic poses. I use it lot as reference when I am drawing for my current project.  Right how I am using the Bruce Wayne head from the Hot Toys figure on this one, hence the difference in skin coloration.

I recently discovered a thriving community of 1/6 scale figure collectors and I am amazed by it. I have become sort of a casual fan of this hobby and if I had a lot of money to burn I probably would be buying figures left and right.

My apologies, but I am still a kid at heart!

And while I was at it, I also took a shot at that bright yellow green fire hydrant that’s out front our house:

Wow, been busy all week to do some work related stuff. I only found time the other day to take this photo of some early morning frost:

Early Morning Frost

My blog has really turned into a photo showcase! It’s hard for me to come up with content lately, so I guess these will do for the moment.

Have a nice day!

I try to bring my camera anywhere that I think I will be passing the time waiting for somebody to keep me from getting bored. It’s a good thing because I get to practice my photography.

Took some shots while at Barrio Fiesta Restaurant. These are liquor bottles on display at the bar. I’ve always wanted to capture the effect that the lighting behind the bottles create:

The band usually leave some of their instruments behind on the stage and I practice with some of the elements:

I am always torn doing my photos between color and black and white. Sometimes it works great in one and sometimes on both.

Have a nice day!

For the past seven odd years, I’ve been relying so much of my life and work to my hand and the Wacom Pen.

Sort of a tribute, this, and just another excuse to do some photography:

This is a follow up on yesterdays post where I am experimenting with using natural light for taking pictures.

These were taken at the restaurant. The sun was just about to set and the light that was streaming between the gaps in the window blinds inspired me to do some portraitures.

My wife, Liza and our friend, Vangie, gamely posed for me. I am glad they did because the pictures that I took looked great! Thanks for being so accommodating, gals!

Other than some minor retouching to remove some blemishes, there was almost no post processing done in these photos.

I wished I know how to do portrait retouching in Photoshop, though. I know I could have given these two pictures more punch with the right Photoshop technique, but I have not found a definitive tutorial on how to do that yet. For now I am sticking with Aperture for all my post processing.

Might as well add my attempt at self-portraiture:

It’s been a long while since my last post again.  Work really takes up most of my time, leaving just a few moments to sit back and relax.

My photography also takes a back seat during those times and I have not been taking photos as much as I can.

I found some time this weekend to take some, though.  The following were taken while we were at the Barrio Fiesta Restaurant here in Calgary.  The sun was just about to set and the light that was seeping through the gaps in the window blinds gave me some opportunity to play around with lighting:

One thing I like very much when shooting in this kind of lighting condition is that the pictures straight out of my camera looks so good that it almost need no post processing at all!

Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend as I have!
